The latest in 2FM’s solo piano series of albums, 2FM035 Dark Piano Atmospheres uses only slow, sparse solo piano and subtle, nearly static synth to create an array of bleak, sombre moods. From barren coldness (“Cold Shadows”) to tragedy and despair (“Mournful Sorrow”), nervous fear (“Pangs of Fear”) to bittersweet nostalgia (“Bittersweet Reflections”), this album specialises mainly in the dark depths of sorrow. Simple and understated, yet chillingly effective, each track depicts one emotion for easy selection of music with picture. This album will see usage on reality TV, drama and documentaries. Some tracks will also be suitable for nature programmes and investigative reporting. The subtle, understated piano and slow, calm beds will move unobtrusively under voice overs or dialogue, and the long pauses between piano motifs on many tracks make for easy syncing to particular on-screen points. 60-, 30- and 10-second cutdowns will be available, as well as sparse versions of each track.
