New Release || 2FM018 Family Film Scoring

2nd Foundation Music is delighted to add Maestro Music UK’s latest orchestral album, Family Film Scoring, to the catalogue.

This album has long been in the pipeline for composer Daryl Griffith: a longtime aficionado of the silver screen. He has relished the opportunity to conjure up the larger-than-life characters and vivid dramatic scenes. Sumptuous, song-like melodies and lush orchestration abound as we visit enchanted woodlands and stately ballrooms, encounter goblins and princes, and experience the beginnings of an intrepid adventure together with the joy of safely returning home.

Back in March, once the final touches had been made and scores printed and bound, the Maestro Music team packed their bags for Hungary to record the album with the Budapest Film Orchestra. Daryl hopped on the rostrum to conduct a rigorous few days of playing – which allowed him to sculpt the music exactly as he intended. Each track sparkles with the vivacity, sensitivity and animated humour of live musicians in action; featuring strings, brass, woodwind, percussion, and tuned percussion sections, as well as a live harpist and the composer himself playing the piano and celesta.

The players were stretched in many different directions over the course of the week, finding themselves striking up a glitzy, brassy showtune one minute (such as Many Hands Make Light Work) and a nostalgic, sorrowful waltz the next (Conflicted Emotions). Orchestral effects to listen out for include decadent harp glissandi, fluttering woodwinds, wintery sleigh bells and even a woodblock solo!
